Located in the heart of Houston’s Historic Fifth Ward, Matthew W. Dogan Elementary stands as a proud beacon of excellence and legacy. Dogan is also steeped in cultural heritage—home to the legendary Doganettes, the first Black elementary school drill team to perform in the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade, founded in 1960 by Tweltha B. Duncan.
Nestled on Liberty Road in the city’s Northeast corridor, Dogan serves scholars from Pre-K through 5th grade with a dedicated team of educators committed to academic rigor, cultural pride, and whole-child development. Students benefit from high-quality, standards-based instruction enhanced with daily enrichment in Physical Education, Music, and Computer Lab. All qualifying scholars receive free breakfast and lunch, and a range of after-school programs begin each October to further support student growth.
